S2 Gearbox/LSD Fitting
am i right to say that a standard escort s2 rs turbo gearbox came fitted with a lsd?
also to identify if the gearbox has a lsd you look to see that there is no rod in the middle of the driveshaft holes?

is it a worth while fitting a lsd into a box with the rod in it or do the two gearboxes have different components all together (meaning a s2 rs gearbox and a xr3i one!) also are the ratios the same?

The "rod" is part of the non-LSD-differential. So you can't fit the "rod" in a LSD differential.
The gear ratios of all the 5-speed Mk4 boxes are the same, the final drive is different. The XR3i has a final drive of 4.27:1 and the RST 3.82:1
IMO stick with the final drive that is meant for the engine. Ford has done a good job in finding the best here.......

Sorry, reading seems very hard....
Regarding to your question, it depends. A LSD differential is bolted to the crownwheel with 8 bolts. MOST other differentials are bolted with 6 bolts. This means the holes won't line up.
To be sure you have to open your gearbox casing.
