Default RELAYS

further to my quest to find my petrol smell, someone suggested that i check the relay for the fuel pump. apparently, some people have been known to bridge the relay contacts when the relay dies to avoid a bill!!!

so, pull away the sound deadening stuff under the dashboard, and lo and behold... no relay in the socket, just a bit of wire with two spade connectors on it!!! pull it out, car won't start! i suppose this makes the pump run flat out all the time the ignition is on?

anyway, go to local motorfactors, get relay (£26) and try that. won't start at all... put bit of wire in and it starts!

also, delving a little deeper, find a metal bodied ford relay under the dash. it has the same pin layout as the one i've just bought, but is three times the size! it also has an extra pin which is still connected...

so...

is the relay i got tonight faulty?
or is it wrong, and i should have one of the metal bodied, 3x size relays?

anyone help???

thanks in advance,
Dylan

Dylan, Thats the relay mate, just plumb it in. Don't you remember me telling you that it was bridged when i had it roaded to stop the hard cut limiter kicking it off the rollers?

sort of, but i was in the back being deafened!!!

paul who came with me remembers this, just had a chat with him.
i'll probably put it back on, as i don't think i'll rev it that high anyway.
