Default COILOVER USERS !!!!!

hi there, ive just got myself a brand new set of gaz coilovers for a decent price, they come with, as standard, the following spring rates

FRONT 300lb

REAR 350lb

i wanted a bit of advice really on what other people are using on their coilover set ups, especially from people that mainly use their cars for fast road use and the occasional track day........im pretty sure these may be a bit hard for what i want but it doesnt bother me too much as ive saved a bit of money buying them so purchasing another set of springs to suit my needs isnt a problem. also advice on where is best to buy the springs id need.

any advice will be much appreciated

cheers

dave.

thats the thing bud, ive literally just got them, theyre not even fitted yet, i was buying the gaz anyway so when these came up for a good price i bought them, even though ive heard that they may be a little hard for road use, thats why i thought about changing the spring rates before fitting them to maybe suit my conditions better.

if others have used these spring rates in similar conditions to me then it may just save me time and further money if i have everything sorted before fitment. these have a 36 point damping adjustment, how much of an effect does this have on the comfort of the ride etc ????????.

thanx

dave

Sorry I just done get it.

Your worried about something before you have had it fitted / tried ?

You want dampening adjustment for comfort ?

What exactly are your 'conditions' that you are trying to better ?

Is it a track only car or one of these what everyone calls 'fast road' ? or is it just a school run and nip to Tesco's type of car ?

There is no 'one for all' setting. You find what works for your conditions by trying it, and not worrying what the 'others' have

hi there, not to sound like i dont appreciate your input, because i do, but its you that i think doesnt understand what im asking, its quite straight forward in my original post.

first and foremost im asking for advice and peoples input, i respect that i havent even tried them "as is" yet and im not saying this isnt what i will eventually do, all im asking for is people to contribute to my post that have coilovers fitted to their rs turbos and use them on the road for fast road use and the occasional track day, as asked in my original post.

i made it clear what i use my car for by asking this ie mainly fast road use and maybe the occasional track day, this is whats meant by "conditions".

this is the first time ill be using coilovers so all im asking is a little help really and input from other people who use coilovers mainly on the road. because im not an expert and havent used coilovers before i thought maybe, as many people are using the exact same coilovers, it wouldnt be a problem just to find out what other people are using ie spring rates and how they found them.

i really dont see, what im asking, as a problem and not alot of differance to people who ask advice on what make of suspension kits they should use, i totally agree there isnt a "one for all" setting ie what works for one person may not work for another but asking questions and advice on this forum helps alot of people to atleast get a good feel for what maybe is better suited to them than something that comes straight out of the box.

like i said i do appreciate everyones input including yours , all i ask is people read what im asking before replying and then asking me questions which are answered by my original post.

thanx for you input so far and i hope this makes things clearer if it wasnt clear enough before.

dave.

Ok now a straight answer

Fronts fine for track (depending on what profile tyres you run) but too hard for road.

Backs way too hard for road use. Try dropping them to around 220 and see how they perform with the damping rate range you have.

Now I have told you that you will go out and drive on them and say to yourself "I think they are too hard", when all you have done is taken on board what someone else has said and not come to the conclusion yourself.

Sorry for being flipant - I did understand the question and did have an answer to give as an input, but I'd rather you went out and tried them first and maybe then come back asking for input.

As for springs measure the length now before you fit them, then fit them and get them set up on the car. Then if you need to adjust the length later to get a better rate you can easily say if you need them longer or shorter as well as softer

Any decent motorsport stockist will stock/sell them. Demon Tweeks have a good range and carry good stocks, not always the best on price but its a start.
