Default What Nuts to use................

Need some advise if any one can offer it, trying to find the best nuts for my turbo in particular the ones which hold the 90deg down pipe to the exhaust housing.

For ages i have been constantly re-tightening the five bolts, it doesn’t matter how tight i do them up they will always come undone.

Now i am getting board, and need some nuts that are not gona come undone.

Someone suggested stainless steel lock nuts, but the only ones i could find were the nylock ones which not sure if they gona be any good with the temps from the turbo.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Cheers guy's

I always forget the proper term for them but you do need some lock nuts, but as you look at the nut the hole is slightly "squashed" so making it tight on the thread.

If you are just using normal nuts thats why they are working loose, because of the vibrations.

you can buy matal lock nuts, (not nylon) thats what i use, but will need to buy in a box of 50 or 100.

can even get St/St ones, but looking alot more.

or the other option is to use st/st ful nuts and st/st spring washers.

handy tip for you lads

if you need a lock nut but dont have any to hand...

with a hacksaw cut along the blue lines in the diagram until you break through in to the thread of the nut

then gently squash the nut a little bit in a vice in the direction of the red arrows

great way of making a locknut if you need one in a hurry

ive just had to take my turbo off and get 3 of the bolts took out my housing as they had snapped as the top 2 had worked themselves loose, its caused by not having a flexi in the exhaust and the constant on and off boost slackens them, get a flexi and your problem is solved i gaurantee it
