Default Cheapo Quickshift ????

Has anyone any experience of the Rally Design quick shift kit ???

At £45 how does it stack up to the £220ish B&M shift kit ???

The gate for reverse, which mk4's don't have on the linkage

its a simple concept, the end result will be largely influenced by how fucked (or not) your linkage already is

Nice one mate, seems the general consensus is they are an improvement over standard, bur the B&M is better (feckin should be for £160 odd more)

juffer You can make it fit a mk3, but you would have to modify the RD sandwich plate.

c.fogarty About right mate. Not had a go with a B&M item so can't comment but certainly don't dismiss the RD item.

Adding the simple block in, just spaces the bottom plastic bit of the gear selector downwards, thus altering the fulcrum point of the gear stick (to make it quick shift). The gear stick is then crudely extended to reach back inside the selector bearing.

On a Mk3 the gear stick runs in a plastic gate in the bottom of the housing, as well as through the bearing itself.

The Mk4 item dosn't have this gate in the plastic housing.

Picture is of a Mk4 housing - if you look a a Mk3 housing it is around about another inch deeper (bigger)

The B&M (the dearer one) comes with a new gear stick of the correct length, (ie not a nasty cut and shut one) but at the end of the day it just uses the same basic principal of moving the fulcrum point of the gear lever upwards to create a quicker shift. It also has a new billet alloy top mount etc.

Is your car a Mk3?

Its not un-common for them to be so worn that the gate doesn't work
