Default S2 HELP needed with anoying problem

It all started a few weeks ago when my car seemed to hesitate a little when warmed up, but only intermitently. After a week of this it died on the way to work. AA towed me home and told me it was the distributor. Brand new distributor and still same problem. Also changed plugs, leads, cap, rotor arm, coil and tried another ecu. When cold it starts fine and runs perfectly, but only whilst stood still. As soon as the engine is put under load it dies. I'm no expert and would welcome any help at all.

Car spec;
88 Escort Combi
90 S2 engine
K+N, Magnex, Samcos, Pace i/cooler, Turbosystems chip,KV85 leads, Champion QC plugs, Gpa coil.

sounds like fuel and as the cold start keeps it running.... could be the metering head? could be a weak pump? check for air leaks as well? failing that push it round the corner and get the aa to check it again...... "Fix this by the roadside aa man!!" ha ha!
