Default s2 overheating help??

right i have a wierd problem, just had the engine rebuilt, and now when the car is on, the heat dial goes up almost instantly... cheked the pipes and the mechanics say its all the right temerature so the car isnt actully overheating, just the dial is playing up (was working perfetly before rebuild).

theyve changed the thermostat.. nothing

now they are changing the coolant sensor or something and checking the wiring back to the sensor but i dont think its that... any one had a problem like this?

any ideas? cheers all!

Sender fucked or the wrong combination sender/gauge.

(replaced sender or gauge unit in the rebuild?)

coolio im going to tell them again what the problem is. i swear ive told them more from the information im getting from you guys than they know! im thinking i could have rebuilt the engine myself/ as in all they did was use the haynes manual to dissasemble the engine and send off the bottom end to get done. I COULD HAVE DONE THAT! im down Ł1200 and 2 months. supose i do get a nice piecce of paper prooving a rebuild for the next guy!

thanks all! if any other thoughts on what the heat problem could be, lemi know!

Id say it's the sender unless they've had the clocks out.

They've probably put a Series 1 sender in there, when mine was changed a Series 1 sender was put in and the temp guage shot into the red as soon as the ignition was on.

I expect the wire is damaged somewhere and its shorting to earth, a dead short to earth puts the needle in the red.

DanRSturbo, i know there is a lot of controversy over these temperature senders, but my old Mk1 Orion had a S2 engine in it and the gauge always worked fine, and now i think of it im sure my current Mk1 has a later sender in it because the connector has been changed for a blue crimp which is the bullet style (mk3 senders are spade end)

I'd say its a short personally
