Default S1 central locking probs (something new eh!)

Evening mk4 door lovers

Yesterday i spent a good few hours polishing my s1 after some minging brown shit stuck to the paint that looked like spots of rust had come through, so after 5 hours of this when i finished i went to lock the car and when i plipped the alarm the doors wouldnt lock, no noise from the mechanisms at all and every other aspect of the alarms locking proceedure is fine but it just wont lock and i can still pull my doors open from the outside which if you wanted to nick something you could just jump in.

has anyone had this before or any of you leccy guys have a usual suspects cause of faults?

im using concept 650i if that helps at all but any ideas i can play will help.

As always many thanks

Pete

Probably going to be related to the solenoid installed in the drivers door realistically.

I presume the locking still works fine off the key?

It wont be the fuse if the central locking operates off the key.

THe alarm will probably have its own fuse tucked away somewhere really annoying to get to though.

Still on the drive, growing things from every available orifice. Ive not touched it

right just checked and no the central locking wont lock or unlock both doors off the key, i dont suppose there is somekind of over ride on the alarm i might have triggered that would stop it working the doors at all?

If the central locking wont operate off the key either then it probably is the fuse.

Make your mind up woman

right, ive just swapped the 30 amp fuses from the locks and the windows over and no difference on the locks and the windows still worked and of course visually the fuses are fine, also i revved it to trip the anti hijack and it still locks the boot but not the doors, i think though that there is a slight noise coming from the doors when it should lock but its hard to tell.

any ideas mate?

Hmmmm, the way it works is theres a switch in the drivers door which triggers the central locking relay.

If it was the solendoid that was installed in the drivers door playing up, the boot wouldnt lock either. So the fact that its triggering must mean the switch in the door is being operated........but then the pin on the drivers door should go down.

fuck knows

Its your own fault for being a wana be then

MK4 doors still allow you to have the pins, and it will be purely coincidence the passenger door only has a solenoid in it.

That said, just thought, has it still got mk3 central locking in it?

I really cant get my head around this, might be something shit like a broken wire but it doesnt make sense.

It'd help if u whipped the door card off and had a peek to see what state the drivers door is like inside.

Ure missus got msn Pete?

Maybe the alarm solenoid has slipped off the pin that operates the lock on the drivers door? you know theyre usually screwed on so when the alarm solenoid operates to lock the doors it moves the door pin down locking it/triggering the relay to lock boot and pass door.....if that makes sense?

If it had slipped off though it wouldnt be operating the switch...........so why is the boot locking?

Fuckin wierd problem this one

The perils of buying a second hand 20 year old car i guess! All of the ones ive ever had have had loads of niggly things wrong with them but i take pride in putting them right and having faith in my own work

Discs you can't really grumble about - consumable item.

The alarm - what can i say its always the cars with cliffords that have issues

Can you not get track rod ends from your local motor factors, eBay isn't always the cheapest/easiest option.

cliffords noramally use relays for controlling the door locking usually 2 one for locking and one for unlocking take a peep under the dash locate the unit and the relays which wil either next to the control box or taped up some were change them just to be on the safe side probs faulty if they started working again its the same relay thats used for the horn the blue one under the dash
