There are some seriously big powered RS's being built this year
all gunning for the top speed crown,

Not really interested in spec that causes a bloody riot

Just after what power you think is gonna be required to pull 170mph+
and what gear ratio you will need.

Does it have to be 350bhp++ or is it in the mapping of the car
or are there other factors.

Discuss

170mph isn't that hard, it's doing it in a sensible distance that's the hard bit.

Over what distance are we talking about?

1 mile or 1.5miles??

The JUN supra a few years back made 249mph but that was on the
salt flats in utah in america.

Little different to what we have over here i know

Well, I do practically 163mph in 1 mile, to give you an idea.

Then there's stopping at the end......

Just a thought what do you think will an ERST be capable on a 3.3
final drive, 7500rpm on 17inch wheels with 40 profile tyres,

Also what power do you think will be needed to pull this final drive?

Get into this whole top speed thing at the mo.

On a 3.3 car would pull 183mph @7000 and 197mph @7500
I should think you would need a minimum 500 bhp I was trying to change to either a 3.5 or 3.3 final drive for the last daddy thrash my engine produces peak power at 6100rpm so I had to over rev it to achieve 154 on a 3.82 final drive.
In the distance available a big shot of nitrous would help due to the masses of extra torque which you would defiantly need trying to pull a 3.3 crown wheel. Chris Todd runs a 3.3 on his fiesta. I wish I could find someone that can machine and fit a 3.3 crown wheel on my a.t.b diff.
Bernie just keeps telling me how much slower the car will be which he is right in a way but I’d run more nitrous to compensate. Now stopping well no matter how good the brakes are you will need a certain distance to stop at that sort of speed

Say the road is 2 miles long, and your doing 163mph at the 1 mile point, When is the latest you can brake in that 2 miles?

You would be surprised how quickly my RST hauls up at the end of a run.

Infact and AndyRST can verify this, at Brunters last year, I almost coasted down!! I should have pushed it harder.

At a guess and it is a guess, I imagine that on a 2-Mile runway, you could use 1.6-1.7 miles of it before braking? However, at 160mph, the distance is covered very quickly so achieving speed at this point is difficult.

Matt - I have to say that it's not just about RPM's and Cog's. I'm not trying to sound funny, but Top Speed in a set distance is a science that I don't even entirely understand.

400hp IMO....sunny ran 178.8 with 1.6bar boost on his ZT and i reckon thats over 400hp with that boost....paul also done the same at the same boost level....both FRST's but comparing power levels with Cossies...speed was about the same over the 1.2mile mark so i should think the ERST's will again require the same amount of power

however, i do know Sunny has pulled 185 unofficially that was on the way to Brunters IIRC

That wouldn't have been over a measured distance though. Mine is actually geared for 180mph, that doesn't mean it will do it though.

Well, it might, on a banked oval track.
