Well if thats not a contributing factor i'll be a blue assed monkey

Cable tied dizzy's look SO shit

theres a company you can buy a nice replacement all in on sensor for your dizzy, gets rid of all those shitty wires and everything, my mate bought one, a 200% improvement over the standard sensor in there!

The sensor are around 50e (30Ł) complete and are easily availble, but can be a real pain to change.

replacement dizzy fitted last night and it fired up on the first turn of the key and purred like a kitten

then it cut out me thinks i need to check the ignition timing and also for air leaks. Nevermind, at least I know I've replaced something that was properly fooked for something that works

Get it timed up before you do too much else! Just a thought - is the fuel pump running

Just wondered because the fuel pump relay relies on LT ignition signals to operate.

The way u said it fired up and then died straight away made me think it might of used up the residual pressure in the fuel line and then cut out.

The pump shouldnt be very loud btw, if it is, its worn and will be on its way out.

lol, I knew as soon as I typed it it'd sound like it's overly loud- it's not

The car was fine on 'warm idle' and when revved it's just when it was left to idle of its own accord. My trusty ford-loving friend is bringing a taser gun to time it up with tonight, so we'll how I get on from there

When you leave it to idle it cuts out?

How long does it take to do this?

hmm, minutes... maybe 5? Starts again first time on the turn of the key...then idles for about 20-30 seconds and then goes lower and lower until it cuts out

Air leak i reckon!

My cabriolet was a FUCKING nightmare when i first converted it! If you left it idling, when the cooling fan cut in it would try and kill itself, after so many times it would just cut out! Then when you restarted the alternator belt squealed like a slag!

All because of an air leak!

well I did have a dV fitted; and wasn't sure whether that was causing the problem, so i removed DV; used a bit of broom handle as a bung and refitted the vacumn feed to the inlet. When it was restarted I thought I could hear a hissing, but I was so chuffed that it was running again and didn't really investigate further; it's very possible I've pulled the other end of the vacumn hose out of wherever it goes to

nvrmind. its a beautiful afternoon so I won't mind being outside playing

They do hiss from the idle adjustment screw quite badly!

Check for air leaks though, i'd say thats your problem
