I'm hearing a lot of people say that they run better without dump valves, but what about all that pressure building up back to the turbo then?
I'm running about 16psi and would like to see how she runs without the D/V but dont want to batter my turbo!

Karlos G, unless you've got a T4 sized turbo running loads of boost i.e. 25ish+psi, I wouldnt worry about 16psi

Why do cosworths run a DV from standard then even though they are running standard boost. To me it makes sense to use one wether its a recirculating one so you don't get the noise or a normal one.

You won't notice any difference but in my opinion your turbo will last longer as you are avoiding turbo stall (chatter) therefore taking some of the strain off the internal components of the turbo which can only be a good thing.

When I first did the rst conversion on my cabbie mine used to chatter like mad with MFi with the boost only set at 10psi. It seems to vary from car to car. With MFi the flap on the metering head closes as soon as you take your foot off the throttle so chatter can't be heard. Chatter is turbo stall which can't be good for a turbo long term (in my opinion anyway).

because they use MAF sensors, and without the dump valve, the charge travels back down the wrong way causing it to come off the throttle very abruptly.

The MAF sensor senses air flow, but not in which direction it flows. Same story with all forced induction cars with MAF sensors

I know that feeling, when i ask a question its quite rare to get a constructive answer.

But then i dont ask many questions on here, when i do they are usually fairly involved

david mate I have told you what Safechav has everytime the dumpvalve debate comes up and now you start listening when somebody else tells you for the X'th time

Incidentally it's only the small turbo Escort Cosworth that runs the MAF.

I didn't know then the sierra ran a dump valve/recirculation valve as standard as I am only just learning about them. Obviously they put it on there for a reason but I didn't know why. May aswell learn something while I'm on here. Surely avoiding turbo stall can only be a good thing.

Only the T25 Escort cosworth using fords EEC-IV management system has a MAF sensor, no other cosworth does...hence why it will run with no boost hoses connected.

I've already been corrected on that

Do the large turbo Escos's have the re-circulating DV?

Never been proven on an RST that a D/V will help a turbo last longer. None of the race cars used d/v's..altho they did get meticulously maintained and serviced/ stripped down often.

There's a thread on this just about every week and I'm pretty sure it's widely perceived that unless you are running big power and big boost then you do not need a d/v fitted and will still have a mechanically-sound turbo with no problems.

I used to have one on my S2 and it ran with no problems at all. I removed it when I sold it..and again it ran exactly the same with no problems.
My S1 runs without one and has slightly more power and chatters a bit top end of boost. The S2 never. Both ran same MFI. some cars do, some don't.

SafeChav Remove the sig smiles and get the quotes onto one line each and you will have some more room for your personal abuse, ya tosser

Took mine off the cossie and it lasted 2 days before the turbo shat itself, was only a T3 and stage 3 chip, not sure if it was just coincidence or not. I'd still do it again tho.
