Will i be able to use the GReedy Electronic Boost Controller on my ERST, which is running MFI? I was looking at the Profec B II.

Does it replace anything?

dont think so mate, never seen one on anything mechanicaly powered erst, r5, uno turbo, etc

only on efi cars like 200sx's, skyline's, punto's, gtir's

 

Boost Controllers don't need to be ECU linked. They generally only need power/earth and connections to the valve, just like you would connect a bleed valve. Also a map signal, which is connected just like you connect a boost gauge. Some have additional features which may need input signals to use all the functionality. The Profec-B isn't one that needs other stuff to make it work.

The AVC-R can display Injector Duty, RPM etc, so needs a wire for these.

 

Are there any certain boost controllers you guys would recommend? Which ones are people using out there with MFI?

Am i right in thinking that the boost will not fluctuate, Compared to the bleed valve.

 

Using a boost controller doesn't guarantee that the boost won't fluctuate. It really depends on the quality of the rest of the set-up and how much you are asking of it.

For example, if you only have a 7psi actuator and you want to make 25psi, the controller will struggle.

The Profec-B is a simple, no-frills, good quality boost controller, but don't expect it to work miracles. It mainly makes it much easier to control boost from inside the car, however, it will be more accurate and stable than a bleed valve.

you cant use the fancy fuctions on the boost controllers with MFI am i rite?

 

If you can give it a speed signal (by using an EFi sender, which fits between the gearbox and speedo cable), then you can display speed on a controller that has this feature, for example.

Some stuff, you just can't solve. I imagine that Injector Duty is something that you can't do on an MFi car.

 

Is it best to go for the GReedy Profec B II ? i heard its very simple to use.

my mates got eletronic boost controller on his r5gtt i think it's a greddy model

 

Greddy's ideal for simple boost control...saved me loads of hassle messin around with bleed valves!! As said, it's simple and easy to install and in my case made the boost alot more stable! Mine peaks and holds the same boost all the way through the rev range now

From memory... a Live and an Earth to thr unit, a plug on to the solenoid and some boost tubing going to the back of the unit so it can read boost pressure.

As tony turbo said.......easy to fit (anyone with half a brain could do it)!!! There's a surprisin amount of functions on it so u'll need to read the manual pretty thoroughly, and go careful not to fuck around with the settins too much as u can mess it up and end up with boost spikes etc!!!

A very nice piece of kit the GReddy - it will work on any Turbo engine.

Set up is very quick and easy - set the 'set gain' to about .2bar under what you want to run, then use the 'set' to get your required boost level - use the higher gears to find this.

Finally play with the gain to reduce boost spike to an acceptable minimum - in the lower gears a spike of .1 - .2 bar should be OK.

Thats all - it has 2 levels so set up the lower one for daily driving, and the higher one for when you need an extra kick.

Run the solenoid as near to the turbo as possible but away from any heat.

Highly recommended - these can handle up to about 2 bars of boost without problem.



BTW GReddy is pronounced similar to 'ready' (but how Tony the Tiger might say it) , not like 'greedy'.
