Default Zetec turbo....

when converting a zetec engine to turbo, the Head, does it need anything doing to it? Or is it just the bottom end that needs rebuilding?

IE: convert the bottom end, using pistons rods etc then bolt on standard head

Prob a simple answer

Also, what are the standard Zetec rods able to take power wise? 250?? safely....

cheers

All you will need to run 250ish is to replace the pistons with some sutable low comp ones.

Cheap option are Vauxhall turbo pistons for £100, but the gugeon pin modified to fit them, not massively expensive to do.

The standard rods can cope with 300bhp and the crank 400bhp.

Opel pistons are not that cheap to do (done it myself and you need N/A c20ex engine pistons for that). They are press fitted to the rods and the block has to be rebored to 86 mm, so in the end you will spend quite a lot for the job. Cheep option is to machine 5 mm of the standard zetec pistons and you will run safe 250 (but that is info for the ZVH build, don't know about whole zetec engine)

Surely not 5mm 0.5mm perhaps. I think there's around 5-6mm of material on the piston dome. And when machining a 16V piston, one should always dish it, never machine the entire surface!
