Default Mongoose exhausts...

I have the 2.5" diameter with a 4" tail pipe one on my car. I used to like it but not it really irritates me. It's noisy, it drones and constantly drowns out any other sound including my stereo so I have to turn it right up to be able to hear anything. I've put up with it as the car isn't an every day car.

What are the other options bearing in mind that my car will be producing quite a bit of power next year? I'd still like to keep a larger diameter tail pipe if pos.

I'm just thinking that the 2.5" system might not be big enough diameter.

Well with reading about how quiet Martin Hadlands car is with a custom made pipe, i think it might be possible to reduce the noise without compromising power output too drasticly.

Daz, i remember Karl telling me that on Ollie's they went from a 2.5inch to a 3inch, and they didn't have to alter the map at all. Car wasn't exactly slow then, although it might eventually restrict - who knows.

The mongoose 3inch bore system with a 3.5inch tailpipe is suprisingly quiet - certainly quiter than the 2.5/4 system you have. If you really want to drop noise levels - then the power engineering exhaust, like Linsay and I have - made by cheesemans - is the one to go for. You heard (or didn't) Linsays on track.

It is as quiet as a factory car on the inside, but you get a nice burble on the outside. However, since i went to a T34 - it has got louder - not much - but still louder. The bigger exhaust housing has less silencing effect than the 0.36. I am actually now looking at adding another silencer to mine, which should make it near silent.

With a 4inch tailpipe, you are defo looking at another silencer.

Its down to the size and amount of silencers - if they straight through - they don't reduce flow

I do need to do something because I currently hate the noise it makes. You just can't cruize to any where and listen to your tunes without turning them up to over power the exhaust.

Not sure what I'm going to do yet as I need a different down pipe.

If i was doing it from scratch - and i may yet go down this route, i'd have a 3inch bore with 3inch tailpipe, A large rear silencer, and if possible 2 smaller silencers after the downpipe and before the fuel tank. If you look at the xr3i system - it has 3 boxes as std.

Magnex exhaust if you want to keep it 2.5" bore, quiet and probably better made than a goose

or if you want bigger bore, 3" bore mongoose with the 3?4?" rolled in tailpipe. surprisingly very quiet as Rick says!

Been there, had a Scorpion and never again thanks. Another constant loud droning noise that gets on your tits if you're on the motorway for longer than 5 minutes.

So far an off the shelf Magnex looks like the best bet but it would apear that they are only 2.5"

I'm a little begrudging to get another Mongoose with past experiences.

my old S2 had a 3.5 inch mongoose tailpipe, in the boot under the standard carpet was a layer of thick wooly insulation type stuff cut out to the shape of the boot carpet, im sure this helped reduce the noise levels a bit

Nah.......even a standard one. My Orion 1.6i is loud, and thats got a standard exhaust! CVH's in general seem very loud in the exhaust department.

I only drive mine to Blackpool and back on a Sunday evening as long as it's dry! It irritates me within 30 seconds of getting on the motorway!!
