or a head gasket...is the water level droping in the expansion tank, also is the oil cap covered in 'mayonise' type sludge...?

Thanks for replys,it hard cos i think its either the turbo or head gaskit, theres no white stuff under cap and have not checked water level as it has a alloy header tank.
How can i find out for sure if its the head gaskit?

cheers

The best way to check the head gasket is to get tester kit that checks the gasses coming out of the header tank. The liquid in the tester turns a different colour if exhaust gases are present.

Not sure if its connected to the problem but when the rs is low on petrol it has been cuttin out at junctions, and i tapd the bottom of the tank and something is lose and rattles on the bottom of the tank inside?anyone think this may be the problem?

Maybe the fuel pump is causing that noise. Had that on mine recently. You should always make sure to have at least 10 litres in your tank. They have a tendency of running dry.

But maybe yours is knackered anyways. Usually the pump should run for a second when you turn the key to ignition. What does it sound like then?
