Default couple of MOT Questions

Firstly do you need to have a spare/can of tyre weld to pass as i have taken out my spare as its borderline legal.

Secondly, is my car going to fail on emissions. Its been setup on the rollers at PE to 15psi but it smells quite rich on idle.

Im quite nervous as this is the first time ive MOTd my RST!

Also finally, if it fails am i legally allowed to drive it home even though the MOT ran out in April?

hello mate.. up till last year i was a mot tester so unless things have changed i should be able to help..... the spare tyre is not part of the mot test unless like fiestas its under the car and then all it is checked for is that it is secure... so no you dont need one.... the emmissions may be rich if it has been set up to run high boost but the mot station will reset them to pass the mot if you ask them nice ( a back hander usually helps) it will only take a couple of mins. but you will need to get it set up again on the rollers.. as for driving it too and from the test station as long as you have the car booked in at the garage with your name reg number and time you are allowed to drive it but only there and back.....

ok thanks for that

im guessing that to make it a bit leaner they would need to adjust the fuel screw thing on the back of the metering head or am i barking up the wrong tree?

instead of messing the fuelling up why not loosen the the dipstick/oil filler cap to lean the car off then put them on proper when you leave!!

yeh spare is not part of it unless it is fitted , it has to be legal if it has one.

all testers will know how to set up the mixture on an escort ... they do it day in day out... the co level should be a max of 3.5% .if they do weaken it off get them to set it to as close to that as they can.... if its been set up right it wont be much over anyway if at all ....

Have you played with the mixture setting since the set up?

thats a poor show if it was set up and won't even pass a basic emissions test
