If you set your vernier pulley up to the standard cam pulley then the engine will obviously run ok. you do this by putting the two pulleys on top of each other and adjusting the vernier so the woodruf keyway and the teeth on the two pulleys are in line.
To set up the vernier correctly you have to use a degree wheel on the crank and a DTI on No1 inlet valve cap. What you are aiming for is maximum valve lift at 114 degrees after top dead centre (for the T2 cam)
Only attempt this if you know what you are doing, if you dont it could all end in tears!
My advice would be to fit the standard ford pulley to the cam and take your car to an engine builder and let them fit the pulley and time it up.
Also when you start messing about with cam timing the ignition timing will also require adjusting.
