Default Fuel Problem

I have had my S2 for a few months now and i have noticed that when i get down to a quater of a tank then the engine just wonts to cut out if i cornor a bit hard then it does cut out

I have had a look through the history i got with the car and at some point the tank has been removed and check and refitted i have also spoke to the old owner and he says they couldnt find a problem

Has anybody got any idea's what it could be because i dont think its right

Thanks Brian

I had a similar problem on my car, but i also had serious hot starting problems. I found the one way valve in the fuel pump was knackered, but i also changed the accumulator etc and it now is fine.

Mine would cut out before the petrol light came on (MK3)

are u sure u actually have 1/4 of a tank as its common on the s2 to have a fuel dial that never goes below 1/4 of a tank so u just have to fill up when its bin at 1/4 full for a while.
i know cus mines dodgy but i've got use to it

Not to sure as to if i actually have 1/4 of a tank of petrol in the tank.

surely the gauge should drop down to the red though??

When i fill up to the top from 1/4 of a tank it holds about £30 of unleaded

Put two wheels on kerb, lie down by drv side rear wheel and tap tank/does
it sound like there's any in there? If not sure disconnect banjo on metering head and turn it over, is there anything fuel coming through?
I there isn't or it takes a long time to come through as Safe Chav says
check/change the non return valve on pump. I had something similar recently and changed almost everything inc met head, regulator, injectors
etc etc/but neglected to change the cold start valve. In last act of desperation and cos I changed every thing else I changed the cold injector/now runs perfectly, hot or cold.

30 notes from 1/4 sounds about right. My S1 will take 40 from the top of the red....

Does the tank have the swirl pot fitted? They sould have one as standard and if it's not there or damaged, then it will cause problems when you get down to 1/4 of a tank.

Had this happen on my Dad's Sapphire. It had the wrong tank on it which didn't have a swirl pot. When it was 1/4 or below, he couldn't thrash it because it would just hesitate and misfire.

Was just about to mention swirl pots

I presume the sensor is in the tank? If so it might be an idea to replace the sensor, and while your at it check for a swirl pot....
