C ould be the small harness from alternator to starter motor this is a common fault. Also sounds silly but is the battery light illuminating when the ignition is put on? If not you may have lost a switch live from some where.

Well theres your fault then, more than likely linked to the blue wire not being connected. This usually goes to the smaller live terminal on the alternator and I think it connects to a switch live usually but check first dont want to give you the wrong info!

First of all have you checked the alternator is definitely charging by puuting a volt meter across the battery. You should have 13.5v-14.2v. If its below this I would just try putting a live to the blue wire if its connected to the alternator and see if it then charges. If it does then you just need to run an ignition live to the blue wire if not dunno

You need to find out exactly what the crack is with the blue wire. Thats an ESSENTIAL part of the charging circuit. Its very common for the alternator light to be glowing very dimly when driving (most noticeable at night), its caused by a voltage drop through the ignition circuits, although it shouldnt really cause problems.

Have you done that current draw reading i told you to do yet?

DON'T put a live to the blue wire.......the blue wire is earth when the car is not running and changes to the charging voltage when the engine is running. If you do when you switch the car of that will mean a dead short from 12v to earth.......
