What i can't understand is if you're going 2.1 ztech why not get decent power out of it ffs, with good mods / management you can get 330 bhp out of a 1600 nowadays If I can get it I'd rather go 1600 all day long

Good point, but on a 1600 it'll be on its limits, maybe bordering past, wheras on a zetec turbo, it's not near it's full limits, so therefore probably a more reliable/stronger engine!

See what you mean tho!

Well how many 1600's do you know at 300bhp. . a small handfull. . and how many do you know that are much over 300bhp. . .

why isnt it on it's limmits if no one can get 330/400/430bhp out of them?

Who has said you can't get more than 330bhp out of them?

I know for a fact that you can but you have to expand your horizons a little!

Yes it is a bit pointless building a Zetec turbo for any power figure less than 300. The Zetec still needs expansive mods to make them worth while (for big bhp figures) unless you are only after the low RPM drivability (but whats the point).

Nobody sais you cant get more than what's already been achieved, but also, nobody (i know of anyway) has! and my point was, a zetec is going to be a stronger engine all day long as it's not near it's limmits as much as the CVH

What's stonger?

Stronger in the respect it's less likely to break anything.

You do realise that due to the angles that the rods go through that the Zetec engine block, pistons and rods are under more stress at the same RPM as a comparitively powered CVH (the harder you rev them, the worse it gets)?

Every engine is always on it's limit hence why a standard Cosworth YB (for example) produces 204bhp. All you do when you modify them is raise the limit.

When tuning an engine (without any internal mods) your not raising it's mechanical limmit! it's not on it's mechanical limmit to start with if it can be made faster without touching the internals

I didnt know about the zetec being under more stress, but as far as im concerned, if it can take much more power when worked, it's a stronger engine and will be under less stress. if you had a 300bhp cvh, and a 300bhp zetec, i'd say the zetec would be working less if it's capable of much more.

Dave, I'm trying to educate you, you twat!

EVERY car will benefit from a remap but after that, you are on the engines VE limit. You then HAVE to start improving it's VE to get it to make more power, meaning mechanical changes.

The Zetec is under MORE stress what ever you think! Just because the Zetec can produce more power after mechanical changes doesn't make it any "stronger" (as in physical strength) than a CVH. It's pretty well known that both the CVH and the Zetec rods for example are a weak point around the same power level as each other.

The uncharted territory is wether or not the CVH can out last a Zetec at 400bhp but for equivelent power levels at equivelnt RPM levels, a standard geometry CVH will be less stressed than a standard geometry Zetec. As well as suffering from less piston and bore wear than the Zetec due to high speed changes in direction as well as increase thrust face wear on the Zetec. Due to these reasons, a CVH should actually last longer as a turbo application than an unaltered geometry Zetec.

It's not that the Zetec can't take it, it's just not as ideal as the CVH for a turbo application and can't rev as well as it could do. My diesel van revs better than a Zetec!

Glad you agree Tony!

BTW! You may find that the car you posted about needed nitrous to get more power as the VE limit of the engine had been reached without having to strip it down and revise things (having probably already shelled out for 800 notes worth of steel rods and 500 for pistons) and fit a bigger turbo etc.

The cars still a sack of shit though!

Ok, I wont argue with that

What would you say is the limmiting factor to a CVH gaining more power than what's already been gained? (expanding your horizons you mentioned, or is it top secret )

On a track car it wouldn't matter too much but when going bigger than the T34 route, you start to lose drivability on the 1600 as the power band reduces or you have to rev it harder.

Not past 7500 no unfortunately. The valve train is it's downfall there.

The Zetec doesn't like reving past 5500rpm either but it has a bit more exhaust gas volume to spool a larger turbo.
