i had the same trouble in my first s2 and i turned out to be the ecu not advancing and retarding the ignition sometimes it would do it every now and again, i cured it bye cleaning all the conections to the ecu and re-soldering all the iffy lookin joints inside the ecu unit,....worked a treat!! give it a go ...nothin to loose..L

that would suggest either what i said earlier, OR your fuel pump not creating the full demand at full boost thus going lean...maybe.... more likely to be the earlier idea tho mate.

Worth checkin the throttle position switch is working, thats what tells the ECU to give full load enrichment......nothing else. Common for the solder joints inside to break down and go dry, i had the exact same problem.

Turbo is my answer......oil in the CROSSOVER pipe and smoking on over run can be nothing but, theres usually oil in the lowest boost pipe, but to get it in the top one is something else......

it's not the turbo that is making it hold back. Oil in the crossover is common - and defo isn;t the turbo, as the compressor seal doesn't leak. It's oil from the breather as it is plumbed into the metering head.

not as much oil as wot was in mine mate it poored out when i took the hose off then wen i moved the shaft there was an amazing amount of play init.... also hen i start her up from cold u can here the compressor wheel hitting the housing oh also its used nearly a sump full of oil in 2 days if it still does it wen i put the turbo on then ill do the breather........ got some people tellin me the escort dont need a upgraded breather an others sayin it does wen running more than standard boost this thing has cost me more in 2 weeks than ive spent on my cossy in 2 years lol
