Default Uprated Alternator?

Right this is gonna sound stupid but....

Do RS Turbos have a different alternator to the XR3i, like an uprated one?

If not have any of you fitted an uprated one off another Ford model? ie for better charging etc?

My old alternators just died and im wondering if theres a better one to fit if you know what i mean

all Fords with heated front screens have a 70 amp alternator.
there was a company on ebay selling 85 amp alternator's for the ERST. they are brand new one's too,not reconditioned one's.

I used to run a 115amp on my old S2, think it was from a old granada with air con !!!

I did have to change the spacers on the alternator pulley to get it to line up and not squeelllllll !!!

i take it the granny alternator plugged straight in, you didnt have to chop the alternator wires about?

Have you actually got a need to uprate the alternator?? If your old one has died it will cost you about £20 to make it like new again......unless your running some mental sound system or have 50 transit batteries in the boot it really won't need it (plus bigger alternators create more drag).

Ive got a standard 55amp one on my cabby, and the biggest battery i could fit in the tray and its absoluetly fine.

You'll probably find you will have to mod the wires for the granada alternator too. Just get a new brush/diode pack for yours is what i would do, cheaper aswell.
