Default Everlasting problems with my cossie anyone PLEASE help!!!

I have an escort cossie Small turbo model

i have had loads of really niggly little problems with it.

when i bought the car i fidlled with the air filter cleaming it out and when i came to start the car up it started to idle up and down and on deaccelerating tried to stall. (i thought well i could live with that as people say 'Thats cossys for you'. i also noticed a few bubbles entering the water header tank when running. Then a few days later i set off abit too quick and broke the engine mounts and drive shaft.
£600 later i got it back. shortly after i noticed alot of bubling in the water header tank and the top hose wasa bulging when it was revved up. i sent it off to the garage and they replaced the top hose.

i had it back for half a day and it dumped all its wated all over the road, luckily i pulled over before it started to overheat. when i got it back to the garge they did a head gasket test on it and it came up negative to the head gasket beeing tossed, and blamed it on the thermostat.

£150 later it was running fine still bubbling into the header tank. also it started to run like a bag of S%*T. stalling, ideling poorly, smelling of fuel, overheating and pressurising in header tank.
i thought as a last option to cure the ideling problem i would clean the idle valve and inlet.
A tin of carb cleaner and WD40 (on all connections) later it seemed to run better with the air mass sensor unplugged but still no cure. I thought f**k it and left it sat in the garage.

Today i took the car out took abit to start from cold still bubbles rapidly entering the water but running fine when driven. No stalling just a quite low idle.

I have had the car 2 months. its been driven on four days of that. it was running perfect when i got it but has gone down hill rapidly.

i wanted to live my dream of having a cossie but my car has sickened me. i want to get the problem sorted but would like some guidence to what it is. if you can help please post me.

Try not to get too depressed about it mate cos I'm in the same position as you in the sense that I saved up for ages and finally bought myself a small turbo Escort Cossie aswell! Since owning it I've found a fair few problems with it which I know in the long run will get sorted but when your spending all that money on a car you expect it to be OK for a few months at least before you need to start fixing it don't you?! Just keep telling yourself though mate, at the end of the day you've still got an Escort RS Cosworth

Don't give up mate ... everyone has their little hickups when it comes to owning an RS.

I've had mine for 18 months now.

First 6 months or so went smoothly with just the drive shaft snapping.

Then, the oil pump went. Turned out that upon taking the engine out I needed a rebuild. £4k later the car is now mine and my fiance's ... bless her and her ISA!

Now it's off the road again because the wiring loom is shagged.

While doing a few other jobs whilst it's off the road, I've snapped a bleed nipple off a caliper and had to take the dash out to trace the wires through the bulk head.

Bugger!

Danny-p
I HAVE RECEIPT'S AND PAPERWORK FOR ANY WORK DONE TO THE CAR INCLUDING THE INVOICE FOR THE CAMBELT CHANGE LAST WEEK AND A NEW WATER PUMP AT SAME TIME.

THE CAMBELT AND PUMP WERE CHANGED AT A COSWORTH SPECIALIST WHO IS MORE THAN HAPPY TO SPEAK TO ANYONE WITH REGARD TO THE CARS OUTSTANDING CONDITION BOTH COSMETICALLY AND MECHANICALLY.
Thats a bit naughty! You put it up for sale about a month ago, and yet in the 2 months you have had it you have had "nothing but trouble"

When people look to buy these cars they want an honest description, especially if the car is being sold on ebay.... before I bought my car I went to see a few, but two of them were described as being in excellent condition and were actually shi't - like yours it seems! I really wanted a monte like Damo's went to see it and the car looked good, but when I looked closely at it the thing had a new set of front wings, was leaking oil the box was on its way out and I suspect it was clocked.....

People on this site want to help, but you have obviously bought a turkey and tried to palm it off on someone else.

Damo -

Yours is one of the the best Monte's I have ever seen! - still can't believe no one has made you a serious offer yet?

Your car was exactly what I was looking for! - Kept as it left the factory on the outside, with some good mods to the engine! ( I would probably have kept the lights / indicators standard as well though ) The wheels are one of the best things about the monte along with the ultra rare seats / interior.... I just could not find one..... If I had not bought mine I seriously would have been up to see yours, as i happens I have now grown to really like my car if you know what I mean - well it was model originally used in the ford promotional film.

I must be lucky ive had my small turbo esc cos for over 3 years now i use it daily and its never broke down or missed a beat..well apart from a dodgy coil pack that made it splutter a bit on boost. and a split cv boot. All i have done is service it every 3k and changed the pads...so its been a cheap car 2 run really.......well if you exclude all the mods ive put on it

Danny-p - I do hope you sort the problems out with your car, I have been there, had problems and it is not nice, but I have also been there looking to buy escort cosworths described as excellent and finding they are poor. It just seemed you tried to palm your car off to someone else instead of sorting the problems out yourself.

Listen to the advice here and you will sort the problems out with your car, but as I have already said the best thing you can do is take it to an expert and and for a small charge he will tell you exactly what is wrong with it.

I think we've all had problems of some decription in the past, thats part of owning a Cossie though, i wont even begin to tell you about mine, lol.

Take it somewhere who knows what they are doing as it seems you are just throwing money down the drain with this bit here and this bit there and it all adds up to hideous amounts in the end, i know its trial and error but seems like the one you've bought (like mine was) is a poor example, (now mine is lurvely) and also trying to palm it off on someone from here is a bit naughty, i'll give you 5k for it

It is the headgasket mate! You need to replace headgasket in good workshop. Use Cometic or WRC one (both are expensive :-( ) and it's going to be sorted.
