Default water in boot!!! help :( found but need advice plz!!

ok guys went to my car yesterday and there was water in the boot it had been raining it did it the other day but thought the rain came in via the water on the boot but i noticed yesterday the water is coming from the C piller i think it is the one the rear 1/4 is welded too the water was running down it frm somewhere????

i thought it could be the seal but it perfect there looks to be no holes or anything???? i'm just really confused where its coming from anyone help??

could it be frm the roof rails??

IS THE WATER COMING IN OVER THE SEAL?? THE SEAL GOES HARD WITH AGE & CAN LET WATER COME IN BUT IT USUALY COMES IN AT BOTTOM OF SEAL, MOST COMMON PLACE FOR WATER TO COME IN IS WHERE THE TOP SPOILER LEG GOES THROUGH THE TAIL GATE THERE SHOULD BE A RUBBER WASHER UNDERNEATH THE TAILGATE, SOMETIMES THE WATER GET'S PAST THIS DRIPS DOWN INSIDE TAILGATE TO BOOT FLOOR VIA THE BOOT CATCH, THATS WHY COSSIE TAILGATES RUST MORE THAN STANDARD ESCORTS, ALSO THERE IS LITTLE DRAIN FLAPS BEHIND THE BUMPER, THESE ARE MADE OF VERY SOFT RUBBER & CAN LIFT UP AT HIGH SPEED IN THE RAIN & WATER CAN COME IN FROM THE TYRES, TAPE DOWN THE FRONT EDGE SO THEY CAN STILL LET WATER OUT BUT WON'T FLAP UP, IF YOUR SAYING WATER IS COMING IN FROM THE C PILLAR THE ONLY THING I CAN THINK OF IS THE DRAIN PIPE FOR THE SUNROOF RUNS DOWN INSIDE THE PILLAR, MIGHT BE SPLIT BUT I'VE NEVER HERD OF THIS HAPPENING BEFORE

also double check at the top corners of boot shut theres 2 circular stickers colour coded that cover bolt holes for the roof rack sometimes these lift off or split

just a thought. drop the rear seats down so you can see in the back and get a mate to pour bucket of water slowly over the tailgate just to check it's getting in around the bottom of the upper rear spoiler support. basic i know but it's worth a shot

its hard to explain really the water is running down the c pillar behind the rear 1/4 and is dripping onto the rear turret cover so its difficult to see where its coming from!!??

Had a leak on mine and tried everything suggested above as seal looked fine. Still leaked so bought new seal anyway and it cured it.

When comparing new seal to old the old one had flattened and wasn't sealing properly. Not obvious until you put them side by side.

New seal about Ł30 but had to order it. Bought new door seals as well and you wouldn't believe the difference to the old ones.

Hope u fix it.

Chris

have you checked it's not coming in through your side window seal

its the driver side and the grommet is fine it could be frm the patch over the hole, the ones that is either side but the patch does not feel broken when i checked it maybe aswell that i put some tape over that just encase?? eliminate that it cant be the rear boot seal as its too much water to be coming through that it soaked a small rag i put @ the bottom of the C pillar earlier on the inside of the boot

strip the boot area out, sit in there, get ya mate to spray with a hosepipe and you sit in the boot to see where it is coming from!!! done this loads of times at work... it never fails

Never had them out, you sure they are bonded in and not secured in from inside?

Hi!The roof rails are bonded with body sealant from the factory.I had the same problem on mine, water came via c-pillar in the boot. The roof rail is easy to remove.Just lever the rail carefully with some wooden stick and cut the sealant with snap off blade. Then scrape off all the old sealant.Clean with thinner.Apply new sealant, and the rail while its wet.I used SIKA 11FC sealant on mine(I don´t know if thats known there?here its quite common.)Anyway its urethane sealant, and quite flexible.Hope that helps!
