small turbo cosworth map sensor.
Hi. Does anyone know were to buy these new from apart from fords? I contacted fords and they want about 140 quid plus vat with my employee discount!! Bloody rip off merchants lol. Anybody know what other vehicle this sensor fits? Any help much appreciated

The OFAC FRST one is similar, but I'm not sure its identical. I certainly wouldn't want to risk it.
If it were me I'd stump up the cash at Fords. I suspected that mine was faulty a few years back but it turned out to be something else. There is a TSB from Fords about rerouting MAP sensor wiring to eliminate interference from the rest of the loom and causing sensor misreads and eratic boost levels.

What problems did u have and what was the cause? I have erratic boost levels and sometimes the performace feels very flat even at full boost. I just have a feeling the map sensor is at fault as the car is msd chipped and I know upping the boost can kill already weak/old map sensors. Do u know wat the tsb was?

My problems were various. Sometimes it would refuse to overboost, and would feel pretty flat. I was also getting some strange error codes out of the ECU - like MAP sensor voltage above spec.
The TSB relates to running some new wires from the MAP sensor to the ECU. It only applies to small turbo models. Apparently because it uses a digital map sensor, having the wiring bundled up in the main loom can cause interference with the wave form resulting in sensor misreads.
The TSB says to cut the wires out and run new cables, however I would suggest getting a MAP sensor plug from something like an XR2, and some spare ECU pins and running completely new wiring from the sensor to the ECU. That way you don't have to cut your original loom and can revert back if you want to.
Do you know anyone else who can test your sensor for you?

I would like to have the car plugged onto a diagnostic system so i can see all the sensor real time readings. But I may take the sensor off and give it to the electronics department at work as they have scopes and allsorts of equipment. Do you know if there is a correct method of testing the sensor on the car?
