I've got a rep and in proud! (see sig)
Your gonna get aload of PEOPLE comment now about how there a waste of time, what's the point etc etc blah blah
Ignore them there just snobs
Imo if you have a rep an enjoy it everyday that's alot better than these people who have genuine escos's and never drive them.. At least if its a good rep you might make someones day like down the pub; " I've just seen a escort cosworth today, I've not seen one of them since I was a kid" etc

I have had a good rep used a mk5 rs2000 for my base, It had gen windows, interior, alloys, morettes, private plate, banana pod.
It got good comments, It was my daily car to get to work.
There where some things you could tell it was not genuine, Rear wings did not meet lower spoiler, no gauges showing boost, oil etc.
You will get alot of people stopping to look and ask if its real. Most did think it was real.
Some pics to give you a idea.

Never understood the whole replica thing, I admire the time & effort people put into it but at the end of the day it'll never be the real thing. Surley its better to save the money you would of spent on the replica to be able to buy the real thing.
I wanted an Escort Cos when I was 18 when they first came out but had to wait til I was 27 before I bought one. It was worth the wait though as I still have it 7 yrs on.

The reason why most people get reps is because they cant afford the real thing.
I have had the real deal and a rep, but you would'nt want to be driving the real thing everywhere.
The prices are completly different reps being cheaper, Genuine more expensive to run, insure, finding a good example etc.

the only thing I dont get is, the car above has a fair few original parts (interia, wings, bumpers, splitter, bonnet vents, morretts etc etc) just adding that little lot up gives you a couple grand surely... plus the Ł2000 plus you paid for the RS2000 and then the time and money putting it all together, paintwork etc. I admire anyone who does this as the time and effort to sorce the parts and put it all together is unreal. But surely by the time you added it all up you could of bought a hi milage car and spent some time making it all lovely again.
There was a rep down the road from me, and to be fair, it was nearly bang on! only thing that let him down was the mirror

I'm currently building a replica escos for the missus. So what if it's a rep? You lot with real escort cossie's should be honoured that people want to replicate your car.....it means that your car is an icon. I'm building her replica to be her daily driver....I couldnt have her driving a real escos daily as it just aint worth the grief. If I bought her a rat for around 8k then as a daily driver it would be constantly in need of work. If I bought a nice tidy one for 12-13k then it would be a shame to use it day in day out and the short stop start trips that she does would soon kill off a YB.

my pal had a jewel violet cossie rep, leather,a lot of original parts, efi rst engine, brakes.it totally looked the part except whoever built it used the cosworth front wings and bumper so the wheels didnt sit right.except that it was as near as damit.think he paid around Ł2500 for it a few years back.

Looks pretty good the black one mate. I think it would look loads better with the proper escos morrettes on it though and not justt he normal mk5 ones. Makes a massive difference in my opinion.
I planned on doing a replica when i was like 19 as ive always loved the escos. After working out how much it would have cost me though it would have been well over Ł7000 so didnt bother. I waiting another 5/6 years and managed to get the real thing.
I dont mind replicas at all if done well, but they must be spot on to look good imo.
I dont agree with the comment about rather driving a replica all day everyday instead of having a proper one thats not used much. Id rather do the 500-1000 miles i do a year in mine, than 15,000 in a replica any day, but fair play to the poeple who have them and enjoy them.
It would just make it even more special when/if you get a real one though. Ill NEVER forget the day i picked mine up!!!!!!!

To be honest you just ruined this whole thread by saying Escort Cossies are not reliable.
Really, mines been fine for 8 years thanks, using this as a reason to justify having a rep is ridiculous.
Have a rep, enjoy it but don't believe your own bullshit that the real thing is unreliable, plenty out there are used daily, go onto WWW.ESCORTRSCOSWORTH.COM and see.

All these figures people are coming up with to build a decent rep is fair enough if your an impatiant type who cant be arsed to search out the bargains insted preferring to rush in.....bargains such as geniune upper and lower rear spoilers bought for Ł25 the pair plus petrol for a 200mile round trip!

No replica is better than the real thing but, a replica suits my missuses needs better than the real thing.

Wasn't aimed at you Stu but the original poster, there is a post elsewhere on PF where I clearly state that I have no issue with reps, I had one as my first move into Cossies and do find the good ones flattering.
As I said above, have one enjoy it but nobody needs to make up excuses for having one especially saying cossies are unreliable, it always make me bite

Im with mat on the reliability part. If you get a nice well looked after escos, i cant see any reason why it would be any more unreliable than a 1.3/1.6/1.8 escort of the same year.
Im all for replica's if thats what people want mate, and i always like to see a deceny replica. At the end of the day, people buy/build/own what they can afford or what suits there needs better, and use the budget tha=ey have to get the maximum amount of pleasure possible. Thats what its all about.

Ive only ever seen a few escos replicas which looked spot on,even the wheels looked right in the arches.Ive had my cossie for nearly 3 years and its had a few little daft faults but apart from that its been reliable.I hate the way people think jap cars are the best for reliabilty, ive seen some fucked jap cars and i know at least about 5 people with jap cars and they have had new engines and gearboxes.

Mainly because theres so many reps out there like yours, so the everyday Joe Bloggs doesnt know if hes looking at a real one or a fake.
althought it may be a nice feeling for you everytime someone asks if its real, and makes you feel proud
its the oposite for the real owners, who get pissed off with being asked the same question!

I have had the same question asked even when I did have a real cossie. To to be honest didnt bother me.
Ur still gonna get the same problems, such as boy racers up ur arse etc, It happened all the time.
I never went out my way to build a rep, I bought it how it was, didnt spend a penny but change tyres and servicing. Also was still a RS (RS2000) Which is way more reliable than a Yb.

If you keep saying the reps are just as good you are obviously missing the point, you do realise the Escort Cosworth is 4wd and has a 2 ltr turbocharged engine?
When did you last see a replica at a trackday or in Time Attack?

Any turbo engine no matter what make, Ford, Subaru, Nissan etc requires the setup to be spot on compared to a NA, they won't melt a piston if the fueling is off etc. Doesn't mean the turbo engine is less reliable just that they need to be maintained correctly.

i don't like the idea of replicas myself but hey ho thats just me, if your still the owner who had it in the summer your alright mate
