Default Best tyres for 93 escort cos?

As above really, the tyres need changing on my escort and I need some advice on replacement,I currently have pirelli pzero's on the car and want some thing better, michelin pilot cups?,yokahama avs? goodyear F1's,I wont be using the car in the wet so track biased tyres dont really put me off (unless you know different!), what are your recommendations please.

I would highly recommend Yokohama A-539's for you.
I assume you are still running 225/45/16, I have them in stock @ £75.00 inc. VAT each!

They are road tyres that have extremely good grip in the dry, (& wet for true boy racers!!)

on a 8.5x18 you'll need 225/40/18
There are loads of makes to choose from inc.
Toyo
Yokohama
Hankook
Falken
Nankang
Pirelli
Semperit
etc etc I would personally again go for Yokohama and they have a new tread pattern in that size in the Parada

When I bought these 18" wheels they had some nackered 235/40s on. I tried them for clearance, etc, and they seemed fine. I note that you mention 225 as the best size - any reason not to go for 235s?

thanks for reply.

Yes -loads
1. Escorts handle superbly without the need to go bigger on tyre sizes
2. They are 4x4 so traction problems are not an issue (unless you have 500+bhp)!
3. The car will 'tram-line, and run in the rutts if you go too wide.
4. 235/40/18 are fooking expensive.
5. 235/40/18 are MASSIVE and look like tractor tyres.
6. The perfect size (i.e. within 3% of rolling radius) would actually be 225/35/18 but that is fairly uncommon, and also looks a little small on the escort's large arches.
7. The rolling radius is calculated to 616 (225/45/16), 621 (225/35/18) & 644 (225/40/18) and a massive 653 for 235/40/18
8. It will slow the car down.
9. It will knock out the speedo.

The rolling radius of 225/45-16 is 608.9
225/35-18 is 614.7
225/40-18 is 637.2
235/35-18 is 621.7
235/40-18 is 645.2

Best tire size is 225/35-18 although I now have 235/35-18 and there's nothing wrong with that.

Thanks for the advice. I've gone for a set of Yoko AVSs 225/40s and I'm picking them up tomorrow from the tyre shop who are putting them on the Rondells. Can't wait......
