Default Oil pressure gauge

For some reason the other week my oil pressure gauge ( Standard Escos one in the dash ) shot up off the scale, and doesn't move at all unless you turn the engine off and it goes to the bottom like normal
Anyone know what the problem is?

have you checked the wiring from the main sender unit?

just incase the wiring has deteriorated/broken or maybe even shorting on something

The oil presure switch is under the inlet manifold, towards the back where the water temp sender is.
you shouldnt be able to miss it, it should be sat upright, and a round bulb shape (ish) with 2 pins/wires that fix on top of it with 6mm nuts.

if you have no joy ill try and get a pic for you later on.

sounds like its earthing out,i should trace the wires by feel first, under the inlet to the sender and see if they are both still connected as they are pretty fragile [esp if the inlets been removed or messed with previously] its a t*at to get to though

this is what the Oil Pressure Sender looks like (also known as a VDO Pressure Sender).

I have this exact same problem, i changed the Sender unit to a brand new Ford Item £103 and still didnt change it, but i have an oil pressure problem at the mo, which is going back in to be looked at, so thinking it may be something to do with that, but wont find out until the pressure is sorted out.

I will keep you posted mate if mine gets sorted and what the cause is.

milkman, Mine is back to normal now.

As i said before, i had a slight problem with my Oil Pressure (due to the Strainer being blocked with Shite), this was sorted, but the gauge was still the same, but Joe @ GSmotosport said that a small bit of shit was stuck in the system that the sender unit reads from, he cleared this and the gauge starting working normally.

Hope this is off some help.
