ive just brought a 95 escort cossie lux small turbo with ggr 305 conversion its running 297 bhp but running very rich and seems to over boost some times the gauge goes right passed the red down to 6 oclock on the gauge ive checked the acuator all seems ok turbo was rebuild few thou miles ago with roller bearings just need help hampshire way please

 

I had the same problem on mine a while ago, turned out ot be the inlet manifold gasket.

 

well im having fun finding out was there any other simptoms to look out for???

 

all the pipes where they should be??? on the compressor housing to the turbo? be sure that will cause this easy!

 

an air leak does sound likely as that could cause to run rich if leak on inlet side of engine.

also if it has been chipped then it may overboost more than standard, esp if uprated actuator fitted. friend of mine had a ggr chipped one, with -31 actuator, and it boosted way past the red - pretty sure that was a 295bhp car too - it was rolling rd set up, with mixture, boost etc accurately checked and it was all fine.

does the actuator look standard? i have a forge one on my small turbo escort, and when i bought it there was a 23psi spring fitted which was way too strong for a standard car - it boosted right round. I got a 13psi spring from forge and it now goes just to the red section on 8 second overboost, then drops back to the blocked section, just as it should do.

 

the acuator is a -31 looks ok i put air pressure and the arm moves out but when you rev the engine gettin into boost the accuator arm dosnt open the wastegate!!!!!! reved my mates 200sx which is moddified and the arm moves on that so that what makes me think the accuator is weak??? not sure wheres the best place to get a good accuator???
how accurate ar the standard boost gauges in the car???

 

all sorted by torque of the devil rolling road of uxbridge, they cleaned a few bits after the first run it was running very lean,, now all done came out running 1.2 bar 259 bhp and runs sweet as a nut wicked
