Default Oil leak.............

Ive just been quoted £400 labour and £100 parts to have the front diff outer seal and the front crank seal done. They said it would take about 8 hours for the job.

Anyone know if this sounds reasonable as i havnt got a clue myself??

Cheers

not sure what parts cost £100?
Don't you fancy having a go yourself? the front seal is easy it's just a case of rad out bottom pulley off cam belt off then remove the alloy plate and then reverse the procedure!

not done the diff tho, heard it's a bit fiddley
if the cars off the road for the winter you will have plenty of time to do it.

They did say no more than £100 for parts actually. That was for the seals, oil and the cambelt.

I dont like to do these kind of jobs myself really, especially when it involves the cambelt. I know it might be an easy diy job for some, but id rather get it done by someone who knows what there doing.

Has anyone done these jobs before as im not sure how long it would take, and dont want to be paying over the odds.

THE DRIVE SHAFT SEAL IS A SIMPLE JOB, ( REMOVE WHEEL, HUB NUT, LOWER BALL JOINT AND REMOVE DRIVE SHAFT, IF ITS THE OFF SIDE YOU WILL HAVE TO REMOVE THE CIRCLIP ON THE INNER JOINT BY REMOVING THE LOWER DIFF PAN FIRST , PULL OUT THE OIL SEAL FIT NEW JOB DONE )

1 - 1.5 HRS NOT HARD TO DO

THE FRONT OIL SEAL IS NOT TO BAD, TO MAKE IT EASY YOU CAN REMOVE THE RAD ( AND BUMPER TO GIVE TONES OF ROOM )
YOU WILL HAVE TO REMOVE THE CAM BELT ( DONT FORGET TO TIME IT UP FIRST ) THE BOTTOM PULLY CAN BE TIGHT AS CAN THE CAM BELT DRIVE PULLY, BUT AGAIN PRY THE SEAL AND TAP THE NEW ONE IN AND REFIT.

DEPENDING ON HOW TIGHT THE PULLYS ARE ALLOW 2 - 4 HURS TO DO

BUT IF YOU DONT FEEL CONFIDENT IN DOING THE JOB GET SOMEONE WHO IS, ITS BETTER TO PAY SOMEONE £ 500.00 TO DO A JOB THAN PAY SOME ONE TO REBUILD THE ENGINE COS IT WENT WRONG !!

ITS NOT THAT HARD TO DO BUT IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW CONFIDENT YOU ARE.....

BEST OF LUCK MATE

No not ford mate. Both quotes are from specialists.

Both have said about 8-10 hours work.

I know Ford use to charge £200 for a Cam belt change so it could be about right for a specialist to do all that work.
Atleast you have a come back if you have any problems.Peace of mind costs unfortunatley.
