BD Camshafts
Basically an equiry to people running bd14s on there cosworths. I purchased a small turbo esc cos originally and a piston went not long after. So I rebuilt the engine using standard comp and pocketed pistons multi-layer head gasket, a pair of bd14's and a T35 turbo as recommended by someone. This was running eeciv still the lag was obviously increased alot but have recently had omex 600 fitted and seems to be more noticeable now. Which brings me to ask are your cars running bd14's poor on idle side of things and very laggy till 3500 rpm? I have been advised to go back to standard cam profiles but I dont want to go out and buy a standard pair for nothing and dont have the originals as i had them reprofiled to bd14s Any ideas appreciated.

I'm running pretty much the same spec engine in my sapphire cossie, and basically you have got to remember that the BD14's are good for 500BHP. They are designed to work from 2000 RPM to 7000 RPM, so the bottom end suffers accordingly. The idle should be perfect, so it sounds like a mapping issue to me. If you are running vernier pulleys, see what the exhaust cam is set on. My exhaust cam is retarded 3 degrees, and I don't find the lag too bad, so it might just be a question of getting the car set up and mapped correctly
The other thing to try is just plonk a Std exhaust cam in, and see how much torque you gain in the mid-range, and see if you are happy with the trade off for top end if you use the BD14
any more cam info, try http://www.kentcams.com/

Thanks for the reply, it has just been set up and mapped but the idle has definitely seemed more lumpy since then. I will try retarding the exhasut vernier like you say see if this makes a difference, maybe I was just used to how the small turbo picked up.

I'd be very careful about messing with the settings unless you know EXACTLY what you are doing mate , you would need another session on the rollers to make sure its running right, and if you do adjust it, make sure you check the valves dont hit the pistons before you start it

hi i run BD 14 s in my car with a T38 ( 450 BHP ), i had anti lag fitted as i thought the lag was going to be bad , had the car set up by paul hills @ engine advantages and i drives sweet, idle is a bit poor but its worth it. i dont use the anti lag now ( just for fun !!! ) so if the car is set up by some one who knows what thay are doing you cant go wrong !!!!!
