Should an Escort Cosworth start without the eletrical connector on the dizzy plugged in? I presume this is the conection for the phase sensor?
Is there anyway to test to see if the phase sensor is working? and what symptons would you be getting with a faulty phase sensor?

Sorry but it will.... maybe if still using rotor and cap you are right BUT on my LT car which is now running dizzyless I had a faulty phase sensor and car started, by pure LUCK... i.e sometimes it wouldnt and would backfire or the engine would advance (like it was under hydraulic pressure) .. New phase sensor, starts first time all the time

Yes the phase sensor can be tested, though not exactly sure how (multimeter etc)

Well my car starts without having the electric plug connected to the dizzy! which makes me think the phase sensor is doing diddly squat!
surely the ecu should go nuts without this plugged in????

fitted it last nite - the old one had lost its magnetism from its megnetic base - it was gapped right though,, and its only 3 years old and covered 10K - new one in and give it a whirl - starts with hardly turning over now - this must have been bugging it for some time, combined with the porous head AND BOTH the fooked starters AND THE FOOKED battery - fingers crossed it stays ok for a bit...
the old one.....

and while i was at it...

changed the last remaing rubber coolant hoses for the roose ones that i ordered a month a go and never got round to fitting - extremely good fit on these i have to say, better then the samco i dare say....
