Default capri engine options

im new to this forum but i need to ask a question about my 1.6 laser.
frankly its painfully slow and is boring me to death which is a shame cos i love it.
does anyone know of any good sites with info on what engines i could use, how much work is involved and how much it would cost me.
i dont want a V8 or anything just something with a bit more poke and good mpg. i'm tempted by a 2 litre zetec.
i've been looking for ages and ive started to think that the kind of people who are messing around with engines arent the kind of people who make websites.
any help much appreciated.
