Question 1600 pinto into mk2 escort?

Hi guys was wondering if anyone knew whether a 1.6 pinto will fit into a mk2 escort? my cars about to be resprayed but my engine wont be done for about another month etc due to dyno setup and so on....im getting a loan of a 1.6 pinto to throw into her in the mean time so i can cruise about. Will it fit onto the standard crossmember with pinto brackets from rs2000? capri etc? and also the exhaust manifold? any help would be much appreciated! thnx!

Personally I would'nt bother with the 1600, unless money is seriously tight and you have been given it for free.
I would go for the 2litre pinto, its easier and cheaper to tune if you want to and just as cheap to buy.
As for fitting I'm no expert on mk2's but I would think you will need a world cup x member for starters. There's plenty of suppliers out there that will sell you everything you need for this conversion, I would try

Agree with above, will go in without any mods with right bits as ford did this with rs2000.

Default yeh but...

lol moneys not tight mate....the engine thats bein builts over Ł2k's worth. this engines just to get me bk out to sort out suspension etc and brakes. just to run her about! doubt il need a WCXM cus the mk1 mexico was 1.6 pinto was it not? i think ill just go out on a limb and try rs2000 mounts, also needa get a mount for the gearbox(type9) which i just laid eyes on in burtons website. if i could get my hands pon a 2ltr it would be in there in a jiffy! but in northern ireland nothings free haha and as a student moneys not for throwin away! Engine shouldnt take long to assemble, getting timing sorted is the problemo...takes wee bit longer

MK2 RS2000 mounts and crossmember should be fine mate. may have to knock the tunnel about for the type9 box though.

Will it fit, yes Ford did it - it was called the Mexico.

As comments below though I can't see the point it's not much of an engine.

Mk2 RS Mexico was a pinto
the GT or mexico 1.6 is a much better engine than the standard 1.6 but seeing as they both go in i'd allways start with a 2.0 unless you have a tuined 1.6
You'll need RS2000 mounts and sump/oil pickup at a minimum, RS BH would be nice as would the alt mount but not essensial you'll need to cut the rad support to get the rad further forward as well cos the pinto is longer than the Xflow
