About time too + they will reduce their emissions by 75% by 2025.

Bush has always rejected any demands made by the Kyoto treaty, so it's good to hear he finally decided to do something about it, however, it appears to be driven by his fear of an unstable source of energy, rather than a will to be "greener".

True but whatever it's driven by, it's still got to be good news. By the time we get to 2025 I wonder what the world will be like and whether all the ongoing emmissions reduction will see the hole in the ozone close and the effects of global warming tail off?

Well new reaserch on the greenland icecap (which holds 10% of the worlds water) is that if emmissions aren't reduced substantially in the next 10 years by the end of the century any costal area world wide under 12feet will be gcvered in water....

which is most of the eastern and western seaboard of america, where the majority of the american population live.

But still about fucking time too, every other country in the world (other than china and india) are following this, why can the richest in the world.

hopefully thou companies will perfect the hydrogen fuel cell, so we can all run about in cars that use gasses from water and give off water.

Did he actually say that?? I don't think so. Anyone knows that that kind of reduction is totally impossible. I think the Kyoto treaty is only aiming to reach a reduction of 5%.

What he actually said was:
"new technologies will help us reach another great goal: to replace more than 75% of our oil imports from the Middle East by 2025."

Also, another thing he said which I found interesting was:
"America is addicted to oil, which is often imported from unstable parts of the world. The best way to break this addiction is through technology."

Now I disagree totally on this, and too be honest, its typical Bush to come out with a solution like this. Technology is a long term solution. Its going to take bloody ages for ppl to adopt electric cars, especially in USA, and hydrogen fuel cells are still a distant dream. The best way to break this addiction is through energy saving. Just use less of it you gas guzzling Americans! Bush could have said that, he could increase petrol taxes, but that wouldn't be very popular now would it?

Exactly Steve! I would honestly like to see what hes going to do, as personally cant see it happening for a long time!!! As the American way of thinking needs to be changed, they all moan when Gas goes up a little bit etc And for any Presidant to increase fuel tax a lot would be political suicide! They all drive gas guzzoling cars this need sot be changed it can be done as their 3-4-5ltr cars are crap anyway and not really powerfull!! Just they think oohh 5 ltr good etc. So way of thinking needs to be changed etc.

Be interesting to see whats going to happen!

couldnt give a flying fuck what he says as its normally all lies anyway and there will have been 5 more presidencies before then for others to undo it even if he did do something useful.

Er, actually, that's what the newsreader said on the news this morning, so that could well have been slightly misleading.

Quite, but since the US have ignored the treaty for so many years, it's only fair they should set themselves higher targets. And they have technology, just chose to ignore it so far (unnecessary gas guzzlers for example).

Frogs eh (that's where I got the news from), they completely misunderstood what Bush said, and therefore mis-informed a whole country He said he'd reduce dependency by 75%, not emissions

Why dont they just grow foookin loads of oil seed rape, extract the veg oil and then run all their diesels on it...

Bout time the found something useful to do with it other than giving the nation fookin hayfever

I recently did a 350 mile round trip in a diesel transit running on pure veg oil.

I couldnt beleive how well it went, the only downer was I just felt like eating chips the whole time...

BUT

Its fookin 30p a litre when bought in bulk... never mind this fookin rip off bio-diesel just get the cookin oil in there !

* NOTE * You cant do this on the common rail systems without adding some form of activator like parafin as veg oil doesnt atomise well enough.

And get these fookin lorries off the roads, get all the freight back on the railway and the canals

Thus leaving all the petrol for the proper petrol heads...

biggest goverment fuck up in modern history was closing all the railway lines in the 60s, if they was all still here the traffic problems we have today wouldnt be half as bad.

there tons theyd like to re-open for frieght these days, but cant due to money or the fact theyve fucking been built over already

short sighted goons

you know, if the railway lines that was open in the 60s was still around id have a 30min train ride to almost outside my work, rather than a 1hr30 train ride then a 15min walk, or a 1hr15min drive.
but instead the train station id use near work is now a supermarket
