r there any erst peeps living/or know anybody in swindon that i could meet up with and have them listen to my engine and ill take them for a spin 2 see if ive got a problem, ive got a whinning sound that im not sure if ive got a problem or is normal ...cheers

 

probably gearbox, i have noticed this recently too on my RS

 

im in andover mate, not to far from swindon, i will have a listen if you can find anyone else local

 

dont think its the gearbox more cambelt overtightened??, airleak that gets worse on boost.........but might be normal

 

Put the clutch down does the sound go?
could be cam belt is too tight has it been off recently/changed? you should be able to twist it slightly.

If it happens when it comes on boost could be air escaping from one of the boost pipes making the noise(check clamps) or the turbos on the way out.(check for play in the turbo.No in and out movment 1mm up and down movement is OK)

 

it whistles when u rev it, its difficult to hear it when the cars stationary and ur over the engine bay, but when u drive it u can hear it, it gets louder the higher u rev it..........

rs daz where abouts in cheltenham are u... u sound like a perfect person to see mine..........how r u sure its the cambelt??....

 

Quessing like everyone else does on here lol does sound like it tho as u say when u rev it its louder etc..

 

As above could be the cam belt to tight or it could be the bearing's in the altanator on there way out
