Default Im struggling to keep it standard!!

As above. my S2 is COMPLETELY standard at the moment, but im so tempted to get a mongoose, chip and -31 thingy. As i have heard these will produce great power gains.

And to be honest i got my arsed kicked by a type R accelarating up a slip road near me and with a few mods i could have shown him up. childish but we all like to win.

What im bothered about is its an everyday car, so question is does the reliability generally get affected alot with the extra power, i know commen sense says it does but in reality am i asking for trouble?

The exaust doesn't effect your engine the chip will put pressure on your engine..But it's like everyting look after the car and you will be fine...You will notice that you will put more petrol in your tank more often. If you are using the car every day I suggest you look after it and only give it soaks when you have to i.e. against type R's....

u can run it safely at around 200bhp in my opinion. little mods needed to get it up to 200bhp.

however the whole type r incident i wudn't b suprised that even with 200bhp u wud stil lose. u have to remember that they r near enough new cars with huge revs compared to the little s2 with only a 1600 engine.

i love my s2 to bits, and i wil probably piss people off here but the car isnt really that quick in todays standards.

thats just my opinion.

would i need to uprate clutch with those engine mods?.

type r's arent really THAT quick though.

Im suprised u say that Jez, not arguing as u have the power and im just guessing but its all power to weight and escort weighs less than honda and if it had same power i would have thought it to be quicker. not to worry though that not the issue.

im struggling to afford petrol now lol

I've replied on the RSOC website 4ya fella as for a Civic Type R beating a genuine 200bhp RS.... no chance! I've had plenty of races with Civic Type R's and won every time. Mines running approx. 200bhp. Obviously on the twisties the Civic would win hands down.

I run mine everyday as said above as long as you check things under the bonnet now and then your be ok. I get 55 miles to Ł15 lol..

I love the fact that a 16 year old rs escort can beat cars 2 years old that are ment to be fast lol

JEZ RS......when u say yours was runnin 200bhp, u sure about that????? Obviously u weren't impressed but i could keep with Type R's when mine was a genuine 170bhp so don't know how u can say 200bhp is dog slow!! Alright so there not gonna be anythin like the quickest thing on the road but dog slow is a slight exaggeration really ain't it lol!!

I could see this happening Peter! is a shame to mod a nicely kept std car, but on the other hand at least you know you have a good base to start from
I had mine 2 years before i anything changed with it and it was only gonna have a stage 3 head it used to have on, put back on - how that plan changed!!

My s2 runs about 219bhp at 16psi and i would confident to run it everyday - aside from the fuel aspect. I think mine has been done sensibly, is set up well and nothing is running on it's limit - this seems the cause of other peoples reliability issues to me

I recently got my ass kicked by a saxo but that was my own incompetence. Sorry to let the side down guys

i raced 3 type R's back when mine was running 235hp @ 14psi...

two of them were std and were a piece of piss to beat, but then i raced one that had performance exhaust, few ECU mods and a tuned gearbox according to him...

he kept up with me all the way keeping his nose ahead in lower in gears, i only just got him past about 120mph odd (real speed, going on 140 on the clocks)...have to say when he got that vtec in top revs with that exhaust sounded pretty awesome. beat him all the same
