The big start up.......
ok gang I'm looking to start my new engine hopefully in the next few weeks so wanted some advise
The Bottom end is brand new and has not been turned for a few months since it was put in the car, I did pour oil into it just after fitting just in case.
Is there anything I should be weary of when turning her over??
Also what type of oil should I use for the first start up/running in period, any ideas??
Would be grateful for any input at this moment in time as I'm running around getting all the last bits & pieces.
Cheers
Jason

Cheers all,
Fudgeass the puimps already disconnected!
So if i popped into the local car spares and just buy the cheapest thickest oil i can get, this will be good enough.. Don't want to damage her on start up.
What grade oil should i use?
Cheers

use a good quality mineral oil in the car something like 10-50 will be good.. if not 10 40 will be ok but your oil pressure might be slightly low when its warm.
I wouldnt recomend you use synthetic oils at all in an RST engine

lol just to give you a bit of reasoning behind what i said synthetic oil and im talking synthetic in the truest sense of the word, ie those oils which are completely man made (normally the very expensive ones
) can cause glazing of the bores on an RST i found this out the hard way
as on my ol, old rst engine the bores were propely glazed... i did a bit of research and found out fully synthetic oil isnt good for an engine as old as an RST.

only other advise i can give other than that above is just to make sure everything turns by hand first
and the engine doesnt bloody jam or something when turned over on the pulley! otherwise you will be well and truly fucked
