Default Series 2 Sump

The sump on my series 2 turbo is porous and leaking, how difficult is it to change, had it at the garage today, they say the engine has to come out, is this the only way or can it be done easier. Because i was going to have a go myself. Cheers

it can be done easily enough on a ramp or by jacking it up and getting underneath. easier to take the exhaust off though!

make sure youe leave it off over night so next doors cat gets coated in oil,er no ,sorry,so that it can dry and will make for a better seal for the new gasket.

its shit when that happens, you keep it clean ,with no leaks, and this porous thig kicks you in the teeth, the wifes rover done the same, fuckin nuisance!

LOL at those making this sound like a doddle of a job. It really isn't. Someone who can guarantee a 100% success rate at this just doesn't exist in my opinion.

Its a B*tch of a job (to do it successfully anyway).

As said above had mine done twice and it still slightly leaks but i can live with that a very hard job of getting the gasket to sit right.

aye,oil leaks are not nice come mot time either.

turn your car upside down, then it wont leak, fuck, its not easy no way,but youve got to try,it builds character!

failing that, sell your leaky car and emigrate!

When i fitted mine the sump gasket just didnt seem to be built up enough over the flywheel oil seal housing, guna buy a genuine ford one and maybe get some sealant too (im not a fan of sealers though)

Does anyone know when the gaskets changed from 2 piece Cork and rubber to 1 piece rubber gaskets?

Ive got a feeling the later engines had the all in one gaskets, but i dont think you can fit a 1 piece gasket to earlier engines, im not 100% though.

Youve lost me now

Fuck weldin your sump on

oils not cheap tho,20 on a leak proof seals better than 50 of oil on the floor.

series 1 came with the 4piece cork gasket,

series 2 came with the one piece.

they are interchangerble, but the tourque setting for the cork gasket is 8-9 lb/ft as opposed to the rubber haskets 5-7 lb/ft tourque setting.

one piece rubber gasket is £22 ans cork one is £27 last time i checked.

ive done 5now with onlt two being succesfull.

allow a whole day for the job (if its your first go)

dont use gasket sealent on a rubbergasket.
and make sure you follow the tightening sequence.

exhust (just drop it of at the turbo and support it with a piece of wood) and starter do HAVE to come of!!!!!
