Default engine and loom transfer

right well i thought this would be the best place to ask

i want to put the rs turbo engine and loom out of my cabby rs and into my escort mk4 1.3 carb .
i know i can fit the engine but am afraid of electrics
is it hard to wire up an rs turbo engine or should i just have it done by a garage?????????

also how much would it be 2 have the electrics done, any ideas ???

thanks

I was wary of the electrics too mate when I did a very similar conversion but found it actually very straightforward, i took the loom from the donor car and laid it down, worked out what everything was and just carefully put it into the other car, it just falls into place and a lot of it is colour coded. Would be handy if your mate or summat had another RST you could use for reference though.

I reckon the cost of a garage etc to do it would be quite expensive but i could be wrong

Good luck anyway

yeah a garage would charge a fortune, if you can, have the donor car right next to yours and just swap it over bit by bit, before you take the wiring loom out just label it at every loose connecter so you know where it goes when you put it back in. its really easy as long as you use the whole rs turbo loom, some people cut the loom at bulkhead and join it to existing one but fuck that. use the whole thing and its easy peasy poo!!!

im in derby mate

thanks for the info people,

i can get the use of a double garage for a weekend which the cabby is already in. if i take my time and name things i should be ok then?

only reason im worried is that my previous car (mini turbo) set on fire while i was driving it (owner b4 me had bodged the electrics together)

thanks

seems nice enough. just label every connection off the cabriolet loom, and swap the whole loom, as long as you dont go cutting the thing up you wont have any problems, especially if you have both cars together, honestly its very easy and can be done in a day

The loom was the only real thing that had me worried when doing my track RST,but as everyone has siad,I labeled everything before I removed it from my old car and it fitted very easily into my new shell.Make sure you also tag the earth's and connect ALL of them back up or else the car wont start. Its an easy enough job, just take youre time, regards Micky

thanks for all the feedback
aslong as i take my time, tape everything and maybe take a few digi pics then i should be all good then

i have thought about putting the s2 skirts on etc but it means i would have to have it resprayed (flip paint) again so i might just wait until i have spare money and maybe adapt an s1 kit which imo look quite nice on s2's?

does every1 think im doing the right thing or would u keep the cabby and get it sprayed instead of putting it in the escort mk4???
