Default How do you fit an ignition module??

After checking the haynes manual i thought it went in where the heater fan motor is but the guy at the shop says it goes under the dizzy cap

Can someone clarify where it goes and how difficult it is?

Cheers

Is it possible to change it without taking the dizzy out? I don't want to mess up the timing

There is no such item fitted to an Escort RST. The only ignition modules fitted to distributors (onto the outside of the dizzy) on a Ford Escort were on the Lucas distributors on the carburettor models (your RST is a Bosch dizzy and fuel injection).

The ECU controls the ignition system on the RST without needing an ignition amp/module.

Nah am in work just now and it's at home

It's maybe called something else but a few folk here have said ignition module. In the haynes manual it calls it an ignition amplifier module if that helps

i agree with Daz, its not for the RS.

i have a lucas ignition module one somewhere its almost lozonge shaped )about 70x40mm) with 3 or so small electrical connection blades on it. if this is the one your taking about i think it is for the carbed escorts not the RS. confussingly the part is listed as fitting a RS turbo, it had me confused for a while but the instructions say it fits onto the top of the Dizzy!!!!!!! but nothing to fit it to so it goes in the big box of shit in the garage

vroooom ptssssh: I know this now, i know, and im sorry

I was replying to another thread kevsrs started, and someone on there was going on about an MFI having a fuel cut off switch (EFI's only), so with that stuck in my head i pictured it was an MFI XR3i, then it dawned on me it might be an RS, so i posted up saying is it an RS, no reply, so he obviously had logged in for a while and went out and bought an ignition module

Ive left a somewhat lengthy bit of info on your post by the way
