Just an interference fit so that frost can pop them out if the block freezes

Thats how ive always done them but always put a slight smear of gasket sealant round the edge before tapping back in,

They used to always be a popular job when i was a tech at Renault

But using the hammer and screw driver method can put them out of shape. The decent tool will hit the core plug even.
It is being a little fussy i know, but after building an engine up we can all do without the teething problems caused by cutting even the smallest corners.

Regards

I use a socket with an extension bar to keep it level as you knock the new in the hole

Screw driver to remove old ones and a socket to fit the new ones
