it started off like a tappet had dryed this was at lunch time today, so comeing home after work still sounded like the tappet so, going a long as i came on to boost it cough and back fire and then there was a very loud tapping sound, and it felt like there was something thumping, pulled over engine was still running but there was these noise's turn it off and call the AA anyone have clue i know its going to be something big cheers in avance

 

Had this on my old mk2 Xr2 fester with an rs engine in. tappet got stuck in the pocket and beat a lobe off the cam.
had to wrench the tappet out (had spread the bottom of it out of shape) new cam, head work to sort the pocket out, and set of new tappets.

 

was gonna say a snapped cam but for the engine to still run under it's own steam not sure

Had a 1.1 fiesta (different engine I know ) that ran for miles and miles on three cylinders after the overheat camshaft broke

Music was so loud I didn't notice.

a broken rocker got one off the old head sorted! big thanks to ant beers on me at the next meet
