Anybody know about coilovers?
I've got a set of Avo coilovers on my car. The seal for the shocker has gone. Can you get a new seal and re-lubricate it yourself? When can I get the stuff from? How much should I be looking at?

Is the damper rocking in the tube body ?
This would indicate worn bushes, awkward but new replacement ones are available form AVO, but you would need a press to push them in.
Be better off returning it to them, after spreaking to them on the phone

I don't have or have never had avo or gaz so I can't speak from personal experience - I was seriously thinking of getting coilovers for my escos but ended up getting koni's and ahmed springs - because I was warned off avo and gaz by Mark Shead and Phil Saunders - and told its only worth paying the 1k or so for leda's (which for me was too much).
After the "advice" I had I read up on PF just to see what other people had said and notice quite a few people had problems with avo - that was enough to prompt me to buy koni's and ahmed springs.

As long as your happy Simon thats all that matters
Coilovers are not really needed on a road car so I suppose in a way it was good advice.
The guy who owns AVO actually rally's a tarmac spec Escos. I know he has faith in them to do the job required.

What exactly were the 'race cars' KA ZETEC ?

I think you should clarify that when YOU talk "coil-overs", that you're not referring to the "show-type" ones that AVO and GAZ produce, but their race-spec ones, which are what you would pay for their complete "budget" kit on EACH corner, otherwise you may mislead people into thinking that if they buy the Ł500 ones, they're getting the same thing that is used on that Escort above, which is most DEFINITELY not the case.....

Ohhh the fun we have had trying to re straighten some of those mate
The bit where it narrows just below the knob is one of the weak points on the fronts. The pistons are made of butter too. Should be fine on a small light road car tho'
Mike, you know we can only educate to a point where money takes over and wins
