Check the plastic pipe from the top left breather filter to the base of the air flow meter. You only need a small leak from these to cause problems

If the fuel pump isn't priming then the first place I would look is the relay.

The relay on a S2 is up in the drivers footwell, on the right hand side.

To check if it is the relay, bridge these 2 points on the relay's base with a piece of wire and 2 male spade connectors. (not the relay itself)

This will make the pump prime constantly. instead of just priming once to get pressure.

DO NOT drive about like this, as the relay is a failsafe in the event of an accident.

If the pump primes this will prove the relay does not work

(or if you know how to work a volt meter use that )

Sorry to but in, do series 1's actually have the same purple fuel pump relay as XR3i's and Series 2's? I keep seeing these "mega rare" series 1 relays on ebay and theyre completely different

Ah right ok, i just wondered thats all? I cant understand why the Series 1 had a different relay, the series 2 run the Purple relay, Ford do some gay things lol.

I'm with you, i used Series 2 wiring in my MK3 cabby so i also have the purple one, a lot easier to find aswell!

Ive got loads kicking about lol (most being the not working type ) i know ive got 2 good ones though, and i repaired this one lastnight, i could smell the unmistakable aroma of "burning fuel pump relay" one day

That pin was actually completely loose, it stuck it the plug on the car i had to remove it
