i was pulled earlier today by the traffic police and they told me that my exhaust ( that i have changed) is illegall.. but its the only back box and ive been told to remove it and get it m.o.t'd and show them proof of removal!!

 

How is it illegal ?

one of them reved the engine up whilst the other one stood behind my car and said it doesnt sound like other escorts so its illegal.. so theyve givin me 2 tickets.. one to show up within 7 days with all my legal documentation and another sayin i need to get it re-m.o.t-ed and give them a copy of the m.o.t to proove the exhaust has been removed

 

same shit happended to me years ago in my rst, but then again i was overtaking a long line of cars at the traffic lights on the wrong side of the road

just got a producer and that was it. the copper was moaning about it being illegal and too loud but after i mentioned i had the engineers report, mot and insurance he quiety shut the fook up

 

i told him it went thru an m.o.t with it ojn and he didnt beleive me.. its not loud nowere near as loud as standard cossie or scooby exhausts... and nowere near as luod as the local nova with his strap on exhaust on...

 

go down to the ploice station, tell the desk sargent what happened n say you want to make a complaint.

the coppers are talking complete bollocks n trying to "do you" for something thats perfectly legal...

its harrasment plain n simple... kick up a fuss... a BIG fuss

if they give you any shit TELL THEM (politely) to find where in the road traffic act that it states exhausts must sound a certain way and if they cannot do this, and are unwilling to drop the charge with a FULL apology then you'll be going straight to the local papers...

PLEASE do this as if you dont the wanker coppers will keep getting away with it

The pigs round here often do the "if your exhaust isnt standard, its illegal" line too, i presume it 100% IS bullshit right?

 

Or just take it to the place where you had your MoT done and get them to sign off the VDR, take it back within 7 days and make sure you get photos, receipt for VDR check, receipt for producing it at cop shop - then if they pull you again for the same thing you have concrete evidence that they are:

(a) wasting police time
(b) harassing you
(c) all just tossers

Wouldn't suggest trying the third one in court though

Thought the only thing that is illigal is if it's above a certain noise level, and to do this they need to have certain kit to prove it, not just rev it!.... Should complain to the police that when the copper rev'd the engine he did it to hard and damaged the car! shove that Mr Plod!

They do it to bikers all the time mate - If the pipe doesn't have a Kitemark or CE stamp, they say it is illegal. They actually have the power to unbolt it and confiscate it at the roadside if they really wanted to.

if the car is new n comes with a car and you remoe the cat it is NOT illegal

providing the emissions are still within the legal limits for that car (which are VERY tight n VERY hard to pass with the cat removed) then the exhaust is perfectly legal still

 

Ive been done in the court for having a too loud exhaust, no idea the laws tho, wasnt tested, jus the pigs say so, i couldve prob got off with it if fought it but couldnt be arsed

there is nothing in there relating to cars n exhausts, just states that any noise above xxx is dodgy

 

This is the law that covers bikes - don't know if it's the same for cars....

"Silencers - All replacement silencers/exhausts must, for road use, be marked as follows: EU e mark or UNECE E mark e.g. e11 or E11 and an approval number e.g. 007 or BS AU 193/T2 or BS AU 193a:1990/T2 or BS AU 193a 1990/T3 or an international mark that is equivalent to BS or Pre 1985 MC Only. If marked NOT FOR ROAD USE it is not road-legal."

A silencer will only get a CE mark if it's within the legal sound limit, so loud sports pipes don't have the mark.

i went to the m.o.t centre and my exhaust was passed and he charged me nothing to sign the police document.. he said theyre speakin out of theyre arse its got silencers onit and a cat so it is legal... took the document to the nick and they signed me off on the exhaust and i said the exhaust hasnt been changed due to it is not illgeal... one of ur officers has quoted an incorrect fact and u should correct him before he makes this mistake again..... my mum rung up (the viscious one) and they cops that ticketed me are now in deep shit coz they had a trainee in the car aswell as themselves when they shouldnt have..... so theyre in the shit im in the right and get to keep my exhaust!!
