Valve stem seals?? Im sure when they go the oil leaks into the chamber. Hence the blue smoke on start up. Someone correct me if im wrong.

Can be a number of things.

Sometimes smoke is just water being evaporated out the exhaust and its more noticable on a cold day.

Could be worn piston rings or valve stems too, even an old turbo will leak oil when cold then as all these parts warm up they expand and seal properly and dont smoke anymore.

More than likely the vavle stem seals get a set from ford or www.burtonpower.co.uk not the cheap one's for the motor factors

As above. Piece of piss to sort yourself. Just make sure you get the one piece top hat style ones and not the two piece ones. Budget on half an afternoon if you're doing it on your tod

Just get them from Ford. Think they were under £15 iirc. Get a decent tool for about £10 and the rest is a doddle.

Take the spark plugs out as it makes it easier to turn the engine by hand and also stuff rag around the vlve you are working on. Dropping a collet down an oil way is a right pisser

For leads the proper Ford jobbies are about as good as they get.

Plugs wise I tend to use Bosch C57's but I think the Fiesta has Ford PC08's (don't quote me on the Fiesta as I'm not sure )

For changing the seals. i used a compressor and a tool i have that goes into the end of the compressor hose, then in the the spark plug holes what puts pressure on to the valves, so they dont fall into the chambers. Easyier then taking the head off.
tools i needed.

compressor
Compressor valve
Valve stem tensioner thing to push the springs down.
Im sure some of the lads on here will tell you an easyier way...

Make sure you read the instruction's because you have to have the piston's to the top when taking the valve colliks out otherwise the valve will fall down into the chamber then that mean's head off to get the valve out

if you dont have the above tool then you have got to take the head off to do the seal's because the other tool was a clamp type thing
