I'm not sure what you mean mate, i've only just learnt that line boring exists.

I bought the engine to strip down and rebuild, when i took the crank out i noticed that the main bearing shells said..

STD (crank side)

+0.40 (block side)

is there anyway i can get around having to pay for these from ford or should i just be prepared for them to spank me?

Thanks for the help guys

When you line bore a block you can either take it out bigger to get it round again, or you can skim the faces and then linebore it back at the original size.

Ive always used the method where they stay the same size and use the same bearings.

I see what you mean now mate thanks, yeah would be great if i could use origanal size bearings but the block had already been line bored before i got my hands on it.

So looks like over £200 just for new mains then bloody crank is mint as well, doesn't need a regrind, its its just having a polish.

Wish the block hadn't been line bored
