Ok, Im after ppl's ideas and suggestions.

My last car was a bit of a quick decision, 2 days prior to wanting the Cossie, I was after a Scooby. After a blast (very quick) in my mates at 150 mph I was convinced I wanted a Cossie. 2 days later I bought a Cossie, the first one I looked at. This proved to be a very exspensive mistake as 6 weeks later the engine went bang. 7 and a half grand later and a new engine was put in, it never ran right and had to have it taken out again by a different garage and rebuilt.

Anyway, what Im after is what to look for, Im after a MK 2 RS2000. Im going to be sticking with the Pinto engine as I dont trust the Cossie engine alot. Hopefully going to have it on a twin carb set up with the weber engine management.

What style do I do it in, Rally Replica, Old Skool styling or try some New Skool?????

Do you think the carb set up I have planned is worth it or would you reccomend a different set up?????

Im just after ppl's thoughts as last time I jumped in and basically drowned.

Oh, my ideas so far are white with a carbon bonnet or currently is black, slammed with light black window tints but keeping it origional from the outside except maybe for some rims and a cage.

Anyone know how the Pinto copes with NOS and before you ask, I aint that much of a gary boy, just got a few Cossies to try and keep up with on the way to shows next year.

How much of a budget do you have?

If you want to keep up or even beat the cossies go for a Grp4 Escort with a BDG in it Or you could get one that looks standard drop in a 2.4 N/A Cosworth engine on injection use the cossie box with a baby atlas axle. Or even better try

They make a 2.5 turbo unit think it is about 600bhp.

I would go with a 3 to 4 inch drop over some 13x7 minilites and maybe a H.P.E or a HT 2.1 on twin 50s then i would use a Rocket box and a LSD

Keeping the bodywork as stock as possible apart from a Fibre glass bonnet

like the idea of a standard looking car with a quick engine. Dont think Im gonna be able to stretch to throttle bodies altho the same power gains are acheivable from a good set of carbs. Check me out sounding all technical.

Do you want something driveable or don't you mind it being a twat in traffic?
Arriving home smelling of burnt out clutch aint nice. You'll get your poke on 48s or 50's on a pinto, but you'll need a mad profile cam to get the kind of poke you're after,so it's either an expensive big capacity block or expensive throttle bodies and engine management mate! I'm with the boys on this one,old skool is the only way,new skool on a Mk2 just don't look right mate.

ok so a set of 45's on a 2.1 Pinto and a stripped out car should see it quite rapid, hopefully up near 150-160 bhp. Then I can put the NOS on to make up the power when its needed. Are there uprated gaskets for the Pinto that can be used as I dont want the thing blowing apart.
Hopefully make up the power by losing the weight.

Oh the main thing about the engine is reliability as it will be an every day driver in the spring/summer months.

Seems Old Skool looks are the way to go

Yeah,Burton Power do good gaskets, Reinz,Felpro etc. Be careful how much you lower it though,it's got a live axle and if you lower it too much at the back the diff will twat the floor too often for comfort!

Max usable that u can lower it is 2" I have some springs and lowering blocks for sale if you are interested but that is low u will hit things like speed ramps and u cant park up on a curb.

As for a mad motor you could run a Nissan 240RS unit in it on carbs u could see about 260BHP on the flywheel and drivable aswell

I have a 2.1 pinto on 48's with headwork/cam/ARP bolts/Lumenition etc in my mk2 rallycar, it goes onto the rolling road on thursday so I'll let you know what it does. The Quaife box and Atlas rear axle are deafening though and would be no good for a road car though, but if you want reliablity (and bearing in mind the rally on the 7 december at Longcross has a Ł195 entry fee,so if you brake down on the first stage you'll be pretty pissed off!!!) then it's the only way to go!
Keep it pinto.
Cheers, Andy

Leave that kinda cr@p to Paxo's & Novas!

Don't bother with 40s either as they don't supply enough fuel to a fast meaty Pinto, 45s are a minimum, 50s on most engines are too big.

Also depends on whether you've got the budget to fuel such an animal cos 45s/48s take a lot of fillin up if used regularly.

If he can afford to build the car with all the mods sugested above then I think fule bills are going to be the last thing he thinks about!!

You boys must have some serious kit out there. I must check this site more often!!

By the way, if you dont like Tubos then seriously go down teh N/A route. They rev for fun and will last for ages compared
to these highly tweaked turbert motors.

Ask me how I know...
