Default Looking for an impact wrench

Mains or battery powered (not air).

I don't have £££'s to spend, so I wonder how useful the cheaper ones (i.e less than £70) really are compared to the likes of DeWalt/Makita which are £250+.

I only intend on using it to undo difficult bolts, is 180 lb/ft max torque any good ? Makita/DeWalt do up to 400 lb/ft IIRC.

its worth spending the money in my experience mate. we use impact wrenchs on big deckings and we started with cheaper ones but they aint that good on tough bits. we put 2 makitas and they havent struggled yet. had the pair for a year now brillant devices!!!!!!!!!

woodz77 Know what you mean, I would normally spend the right amount of money on tools I use regularly, however, the impact wrench is only for occasional use so I find it difficult to justify the expense.

grimmeRST I have a full set of sockets already, needed a 19mm at central day urgently, and one of the traders there had one, but I had to buy a full set of impact sockets

Ginge, it's the kind of thing I want in the workshop, not in someone else's boot, but thanks for the offer

Sorry to hear about the engine, hope you get it sorted soon. Say happy birthday to lil one for me too

Someone was asking about these the other day & suggested the Clarke Impact Driver.

Available from Machine Mart currently on offer.
Just have a look for the link:

I bought one of these in france for £12 , the way it works is strange though, it seems to "build up" momentum during which nothing happens, then suddenly clack clack clack it does something, then nothing again as it builds some more momentum

I have used a mains powered one (rented for £30 from HSS) to undo a crank pulley bolt, and it was sooooo much better
